Why do you speak of Integrated Risk Management and Business Continuity Planning rather than simply Risk Management as some others do?Whilst Risk Management aims to provide measures to avoid/mitigate the risks that may threaten your business, we recognise that you can’t always do this. Moreover, in some cases it isn’t even possible to recognise the threats in the first place. For instance, you cannot predict that lightning will hit your best salesperson! For this reason, we recognise the need to also be prepared for dealing with the aftermath of a disaster – hence the equal emphasis upon Business Continuity Planning. What is the difference between a Disaster Recovery Plan and a Business Continuity Plan?In truth, there aren’t any real substantial differences and when used people are usually talking about the same thing. At Utopic Solutions, we take the view that regardless of what you call it, the most important thing is to ensure that the plan is comprehensive and incorporates both the immediate responses required as well as those medium to longer term issues related to resuming business as usual. |
Isn't this all simply related to backing up of computer records and other IT related concerns?Whilst many organisations simply focus their Business Continuity activities around their I.T. departments, we take the view that true Business Continuity Planning should take a more holistic view and encompass all those elements, both internal and external, that contribute to operating a business.
